R2-D2 cake for my Bday

Do u know Star Wars? Of course you do!

Well, we grew up with movies like E.T., Star Wars, The neverending story, The goonies, The Dark Crystal,...

I decided to make an R2-D2 cake for my colleagues to celebrate my Bday.

How much more can you make IT-folks happy but making a star wars cake? (o;

So here it is:

Do you remember this? It is my favorite character of my childhood movies:

Daan Miles B-day cake

Daan Miles' Bday was on October 28.

He is already 4 !! Wooow!! It felt like yesterday we saw him for the first time. Now we are buddy-buddy. I luv him so much and I can't wait to show him the world.

In school Juf Sonja is teaching the kids about halloween. So Daan Miles and I decided to make a cake in that theme. He just loved it. The day before they made pumpkin soup with spiders in school so we made a pumpkin soup with frog eyes hihihhii spooky adorable!

Morrocan Gazelle horns

Ingredients for 16 pastries
- 440 ml (1 3/4 cups) flour
- 2 tbsp. melted butter
- 2 tbsp. orange flower water
- 2 large egg yolks, beaten
- A pinch of salt
- Icing sugar
Almond paste
- 500 ml (2 cups) finely ground almonds
- 250 ml (1 cup) icing sugar
- 2 tbsp. orange flower water
- 2 tbsp. melted butter
- 2 egg yolks, beaten
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Making the almond paste
  1. Combine all the ingredients for the almond paste in a bowl until smooth and creamy; divide the paste into 16 pieces;
  2. take each piece and roll it between your hands to make a cylinder about 7 cm (2 3/4") long; repeat until you have rolled out all 16 portions.

Making the pastry

  1. Combine the flour and salt;
  2. place the melted butter, orange flower water and one egg yolk in a bowl; add the flour and salt mixture; mix, adding enough cold water to form a soft dough;
  3. knead the dough for about 10 minutes until elastic;
  4. place on a floured work surface and roll out to a very thin rectangle; cut into strips 7.5 (3") wide;
  5. lay a cylinder of almond paste on each strip of pastry, 2 cm (1") from the edge, spacing them 3 cm (1 1/2") apart;
  6. moisten the other side of the pastry strip with a pastry brush; fold the strip in half to enclose the almond paste and press all around the filling to seal;
  7. with a fluted pastry wheel, cut each pastry into a half circle, pushing in the right side to form a crescent;
  8. place on a buttered and floured baking sheet; brush with the remaining egg yolk combined with a few drops of water;
  9. bake in a 180°C oven for 12 to 16 minutes or until lightly golden;
  10. remove from the oven; cool; sprinkle with icing sugar and serve.

first sale is a fact

So guys, yesterday I made a whole bunch of chai cupcakes and lemongrass - lime cupcakes coz my parents were having a bbq. I made an oreo-cheesecake, mascarpone avokaat and mascarpone-cuberdone desserts.

In the mean time I presented the cupcakes in the Giraffe Oh Lalaaaa cupcake wrappers and apparently everybody loved them!!! yipieeeeee.

So my little giraffe has a high kawaii-factor!

I luv it.

So while I was making the chai cupcakes, can I give you a hint and tell you to be carefull with the cardamom? It is a very explicit flavor and it kinda tasted a bit like eucalyptus.

Below you see fermented pork meat (nem in Thai) with green peppers, somen noodles and szechuan pepper, fried wonton, cumcumber and tomatoes. If you are not familiar with the nem it might taste strange.

post #300

Good morning all!

I was wondering this morning why for heaven's sake we switched from spring to autumn! It's really annoying each morning I want to put on summer clothes but each time I need to grab for warm autumn outfits :(

I wan't summer!!! pooh just needed to share this with the world (o;

Anyway, this is post #300! can you imagine? wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii I'm am so proud. haha

So let's celebrate this with a chocolate cupcake and vanilla ice-cream.

Since a while you can see a funky tv-show called cupcake wars on Vitaya. It's on Monday @ 21h45.

It's actually a contest between top cupcake bakers which face off in 3 elomination challenges until only one decorator remains. The recipes are really calling for a trial @ home. (o; I tried one of the peanut butter recipes. Also red velvet is very populair.

Here are the recipes: http://www.foodnetwork.com/cupcake-wars/recipes/index.html

I also found a very challenging chai recipe which I will try out for you guys. I'll just make regular cupcake batter and add the following:

Chai Spice Mix
1 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 ts cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

For the Vanilla Chai Buttercream:
2 stick (1 cup) butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/2 quantity chai spice mix
1-2 tbs cold milk, if needed

I'll let you know if it was fine or amazing (o;

PS: oh so you haven't seen my webshop yet? Click on the Misuno Website button at the left side of your screen (o;

All sorts of batter

A while ago I bought myself some plastic piping bags. And dear oh dear, this was a good thing to do! I luv them and I cannot bake without them anymore (o; My kitchen stays so clean while baking now. hihi . So I always pipe my batter into the cupcake forms now.

This is the matcha batter:

This is from the red velvet cakes:

And this one was a bad trial of snickers cupcakes:

And all the cupcakes are gone now ((o;

Matcha is powdered green tea of high quality originated from Japan.

This tea powder allows you to make a whole set of varieties in the dessert area.

I can't wait to think about new stuff I can make with it. This for example was a cream of matcha, mixed with fat cream cheese and cream 40%. Just before using it I added mixed fresh strawberries.

Did you know that the entire tea plantation around Fukushima is radioactive? When they dry the leaves the radioctive contamination reduces, but when you add water to it it will increase the radio activity again.

Totoro Cake agaaaaaaain??

Kathleen and hubby celebrated their birthday and instead of my first thought, of making them a Harry Potter cake, I made a flower cake with for my little sunshine a chibi totoro.

I was so happy the little one was around as he was the cake guard! (o;

Next week I'll post the recipe for the green tea filling I used. Matcha

PS: It was actually so much fun making a whole bunch of flowers & watching tv. hihi

Happy weekend. ♥

yin yang chocolate

Based on a tutorial from Anna The Red I made these yin yang chocolates for a Taiji demo in Keerbergen.

Here is the tutorial: Yes here

And it is so much fun to make.

I also need to share you guys I will be going to the hospital on Friday as I need a heart operation. I truly hope all will go well and I'll be in the same health as I am now, even better then. As with my little boy I have so much responsibility and truly, I enjoy my life every single day. I didn't need a bad experience to believe one must cherish life. So please pray for me. xxx

Dora cake for Lara

Can you imagine dear readers, this girl already turned 4! And I had the honor to create her B-day cake, cookies, waffle wraps for 3 times in a row now.

Lara, my son Daan Miles and our nephew Pele are just 3 very good friends. So before Monday it was 3 times 3.

Happy B-day sweety!!!! I hope you enjoyed your Dora cake!!

If people ask you to create a cake and you have no idea how big it should be. Just work in layers and just make sure you have more then enough ((o; I used 750g of bisquitmix and 12 eggs for 25 toddlers and the teachers. More then enough I know.

Chinese bakery

My parrent sent me this per post, lol!! a flyer of a bakery in China. Called Breadworks.

So lovely! And they told me each few hours the counter had a whole new range of cookies and cakes. That's so amazing (o;

PS: One of the winners of the contest didn't react and this for already 3 weeks now. Yet another week and I'll pick another winner. Is that ok for you guys?

lotsa luv

Adorable baby snowglobe cake

Yezzz, this is a cake (o;

This is what we call a snow globe cake. The ball I got from de banier. So only the ball and the wings are not edible. All the rest is edible. I truly luved making this cake. It was again something out of the box. I luv to combine craft with cake material.

Spirited away cake

Pele, my little nephew became 3. And he wanted a cake with a dragon. There are quite some dragons but currently we all are into the dragon from spirited away.

So here is his ghibli spirited away cake with kaonashi or no face, haku the dragon, susuwatari, totoro, Neko bus the catbus and kodama the forest spirits.

There isn't a lot of sugarpaste as they don't like sugar.

Cake Chic

Daan Miles already went to second kindergarten as the first one is too big. Therefore we made these lovely oreo cookies with pink sugar icing and flower gum paste.

I guess you can take any cookie you want. But we just luv oreo cookies (if you live in Belgium, you find them in Kruidvat and Delhaize, but if you visit Albert Heyn in the Netherlands or Antwerp now they are way cheaper there). Take some powdered sugar and add a little bit (really a little bit) of water or lemon juice and start stirring, add more if needed. If you decide to make it pink and you use pink powder like a did then there's no need to pay attention on the fluidity. But when you add pink in gel or liquid don't add the water or lemon juice at the beginning as it might become to liquid. Just be carefull.

So many thanks Juf Sonja for taking such good care of my baby big boy!!

pipi longstocking cake

Nona is my little niece's baby-girl. Before my niece had any children she even refused to look at pink-hello kitty things I guess. And now her house is probably filled with plush, pink, sparkels, hello kitty. She could have been the one who invented the http://www.kittyhell.com/ blog. Which is so funny.

Anyway, for Nona's first cake she chose pipi longstocking. And here is the result:

ITIL ICTS Service Catalogue

Did I mention I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv ITIL? And SixSigma? This sounds chinese for non IT folks but this is 1. a methodology of managing your IT hand in hand with the business & 2. project management. Did I mention am a nerd? Oh ok, I am a big time nerd and I don't mind hihi.

This cake is a catalogue for launching the ICTS Service Catalogue at work. On one hand I was so happy I could participate a small bit on this project and I was proud I was asked to make this cake. But on the other hand it still makes me sad every single day I can't work with my heart and soul in my daily job. I realise I have tons of energy I must get rid of. And people sometimes wonder, where I get the time and energy to make these bento and cake creations. But I need to have projects to get rid of my energy, where I can give myself a 100%. Like taiji and kungfu... I wonder if age tone down my fire?

You can order prints on edible paper for 3.5 euro's per A4 @ Themataarten.

Also: This week I will launch a contest with loads of presents and gifts from http://www.bentoshop.de/.

So keep tuned!!

Mega Mindy cake for Principessa Linde

I know I know,

It has been a while, oh my, more then 3 weeks! I didn't realise so I'm sorry. Hubby is studying his PMP (Project Management Professional) and tomorrow is his examen. He was studying all the time at my desk so I wasn't able to do stuff on my pc.

But heey, don't worry, I'm back and I bring you loads of fun! Something else which is funny, a dude crashed into Paris Hilton 's 30th Bday party and stole her Bday cake!! ha! so funny, as it was not planned to eat the cake. How stupid! Cakes and sweets must be eaten, no doubt 'bout that.

Now let's say something about this Mega Mindy cake. Mega Mindy is cool! She's everybody's personal hero, she's our idol, a beautiful blonde with brains, and super strong. My little boy is also super crazy about her. She's hot I tell u! And sweet principessa Linde chose this as theme for her 6th Bday party. And *bang* she had a hell of a Bday party. 20 little ones crashed into her party and they had loads of fun! Luckely Linde's mom invited some friends to join the festivities and help her out. Forget 'bout playing quiet games... ROCK ON!!!

I combined the bisquit with papercraft and here is the result:

Cupcakes for a sweet 18 year old, gorgeous girl

For her sweet 18, Linde's mom ordered a whole bunch of cupcakes with me !!! (wiiiiiiiiiiiiii) She came to me already weeks ago, telling me about this great idea she had for her daughter. Later on, she showed me some pictures and *bang* I knew exactly what she wanted. Gorgeous pink stylish cupcakes. The way I like them to be. And on Friday she had a surprise party while on Monday she treated everyone at school.

Isn't life great? It's the small things that makes us happy.

Good Monday all,

During christmas season we did a lot of craft work which we found in my petit prince his dopido magazine. Including this delicious snowman bread. I added some extra winter herbs like cinnamon and nutmeg to make it tasty as the original recipe it was a bit boring.

<I'll post the recipe later today>

PS: look how proud he was. I do luv the way he made the face.

Santa cake

Chibi Totoro cotton candy

Sawatdee pi mai khon souwai!

Happy fabulous new year at this very beginning of 2011.

I would like to wish you a balanced year of prosperity, joy, hapiness and luck. Strenght whenever needed and luv every single day of the year.

I would also like to give you a challenge for this year. --Do something crazy-- Yes that's right! Unregarded your age just do something really crazy that makes you excited and happy. I'll let you know whenever I do something crazy, ok I am not that young anymore but still... Last week I saw my neighbours playing in the snow. So my little boy and I rushed doing our coats and hats on and we ran outside to do a snow fight. Absolutely great! And don't forget to share your experience (o; I'm already curious...

To start the year in a good mood here you see chibi totoro in cotton candy.

Candle cakes and agression

These are 2 of my newest creations from 'think outside the box'. When I make cakes for b-days or other celebrations I try to make it not only delicious but also beautiful to look at. Until a while ago I only worked with things you can eat, but since a short while I extend that to paper craft as well. So here you see my candle cakes with eatable delights on the inside but papercraft on the outside.

Tonight I'll start painting the santa cake for Friday. It will be a 20-persons cake for Daan Miles' school.

Yesterday we went to see santa (sinterklaas) and a woman on the parking attacked us like crazy. She tried to get me out of my car but I could lock the doors right on time. She was hitting my windows like hell and was shouting like crazy... while her kids were alone in her car... what a mess :/ I was so happy Daan Miles was sleeping. I wanted to call the cops but then I needed to spend time waiting for them. While Daan Miles had a meet and greet with santa. But tonight I will go to the police to tell my story.

I wonder why a mom with 2 children is reacting like an aggresive boxer. She thought she was first at a parking spot while I was waiting there already for a few minutes. Within the 5 minutes after this incident there were 4 other available parking spots within 5-10 meters. Did you ever been faced with aggresion? Could it be the pressure of society people become aggressive and unfriendly? While she was hitting on my window I looked down and made no eye contact to not encourage the fire. Sounds stupid but I couldn't take the risc becoming injured while my little boy was in the car. crazy world. horrible woman...

my Bday cake

This was so cool!!

As it was my Bday I could choose the theme myself for my Bday cake. And guess what, I've chosen a Japanese lady playing with her lovely cat.

I also like the great wave of Kanagawa by Hokusai. But that was too difficult to paint (o; Maybe next time?

Primus Haacht Brewery & the moustaches

For our team event we visited the brewery of Haacht. It was fun coz my little sister is working at the brasserie of the brewery and after our visit we went to grab diner at my sister's place. And that was fun!
